Can I have an apartment barbeque?

Saturday, March 06, 2010

One of the great things about living in a city like Atlanta is the fact that winters tend to be shorter than what most people up north have to put up with. This means that summers, springs and autumns are longer and people tend to spend more time outdoors enjoying the wonderful weather. It also means that barbeque season is usually in full swing by the end of March and continues to Halloween, or even later. Pretty much everyone loves to barbeque, but if you live in an apartment, what can you do? Here are a few options.

If you are lucky enough to live in an apartment that has a balcony, you may be allowed to use a small hibachi-style grill or even a small charcoal grill on your balcony or patio. You really should ask your landlord or building manager if it is allowed first, but even if it isn’t, you won’t likely face disciplinary action if caught unless it is expressly spelled out in your lease. Even if it isn’t, you probably don’t want to anger your landlord so it is always best to ask first.

Many large apartment complexes have a public area that comes equipped with large charcoal grills. You will have to reserve one with the your building manager to ensure that it will be available on the date you want to use it, but often times, most residents don’t even know this amenity is even available so you will likely have the chance to use it as much as you like.
